Ray LaMontagne Recovers After Collapsing During Nashville Concert
Singer-songwriter Ray LaMontagne is recovering after becoming unwell and collapsing on stage during his concert at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on September 5.
The 53-year-old musician was performing for fans when the unexpected incident occurred near the end of his set. Videos shared online show LaMontagne playing the final chords of his 2004 song “Jolene” before making a faint sound and suddenly falling to the stage.
Members of his band quickly moved toward him as concerned fans watched from the audience.
Following the incident, LaMontagne’s team explained that the singer was receiving medical attention for heat-related dehydration.
“Ray is in good hands with the local EMS,” his team said in a statement shared through his Instagram Story. The statement also noted that he was doing well and appreciated the understanding and concern from fans.
The concert took place during a particularly hot day in Nashville, where temperatures reportedly climbed as high as 101 degrees, according to AccuWeather.
Some people who attended the show said LaMontagne appeared to be struggling before his eventual collapse. Concertgoer Andrea Curtis told The Tennessean that she noticed the singer repeatedly touching or pressing his head during the performance, which gave the impression that he was trying to regain his composure.
Curtis also recalled that LaMontagne briefly stepped away from the stage before returning to perform “Jolene,” the song he was singing when he eventually collapsed.
According to her account, the incident appeared to be the result of a gradual struggle during the performance rather than something that happened completely without warning.
Despite the frightening moment, LaMontagne’s team later reassured fans that he was doing well after being attended to by local emergency medical personnel.
The singer is currently on a U.S. tour with The Weather Station to mark the 20th anniversary of his debut album, Trouble. His tour schedule includes a planned performance in Syracuse, New York, on September 8.
Fans have since expressed concern and sent their best wishes to the singer as he continues his recovery.
